Our annual Fireworks Display took place last weekend, on Friday 1st November 2024.
With tickets sold out by 1pm that afternoon and the forecast looking drizzly at most, we were off to a great start. The Halloween Howler Pumpkin Competition was as popular as ever, introducing a whole new category which was very well received: adult entries. Don’t worry, we had the same criteria for adults… name AND age supplied! With over 60 entries (we lost count throughout the evening), the Mayor of Sedgefield Councillor Peter Hinde had the difficult task of choosing three winners. This may have been our most creative year ever, with some very intricate designs and recognisable faces – Iron Man, Bluey & Bingo, Minions Batman & Robin (complete with capes) just to name a few. After some serious consideration, the following winners were picked and awarded gift cards & some sweet treats:
Children’s Winner
Elsie aged 10
The Mayor enjoyed Elsie’s pumpkin house, with steps leading up to the doorway and an adorable little pumpkin looking very cheery inside. Well done for winning first place!
Children’s Runner Up
Olly aged 12
Olly chose to try something new this year – carving a watermelon. Not only was it easier to carve but he ate it as he worked! We have to admire his innovative thinking, earning our first ever watermelon entry the runner up prize! Maybe this will start a trend…
Adult Winner
Jason aged 52
Jason won with his incredible carving of the sorting hat from Harry Potter. We can only imagine how much effort it took to carve something this intricate! It was the fan favourite – congratulations!
So many people came across the car park to marvel at the array of pumpkin (and watermelon) designs on the competition tables before getting their tickets checked for the Fireworks Display, so well done and thank you to everyone who entered this year’s competition for creating an enjoyable experience for all. Check out some more snaps below.
After judging the Halloween Howlers, our Mayor sprinted through the grounds of Ceddesfeld Hall to set off the fireworks for yet another magical display. Thank you to our staff & Councillor volunteers, the SCA team and to 1st Sedgefield Scouts who kept us warm with hot chocolates and hot dogs!
Sedgefield Ploggers were out and about on Sunday 2nd November for a morning-after firework litter pick in and around the grounds of Ceddesfeld. We really appreciate your hard work – well done!
