We had to commemorate Remembrance Day in a different way this year. The usual service in St. Edmund’s Church could not go ahead on Sunday 8th November. However, working with the church, we were able to record a service in advance, which you can watch in the video on this page. Led by Lay Reader Michael King, the recording lasts about 20 minutes and features the key elements that are usually part of the service, including readings by representatives of 1st Sedgefield Guide Company (Ellen Parry) and 1st Sedgefield Scout Group (Charlie Lines).

On Sunday 8th November, with the support of Sedgefield Development Trust, we livestreamed the Act of Remembrance at Sedgefield War Memorial. Once again led by Michael King, this was a socially distanced commemoration service, which included prayers, a reading by Cllr Mel Carr, the Last Post by bugler Steve Gallagher, a two-minute silence, and the laying of a small number of wreaths. Those wreaths were laid by Pam Royle on behalf of the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, Cllr Mel Carr on behalf of Sedgefield Town Council, Cllr David Brown on behalf of Durham County Council, and Peter Gaines on behalf of Sedgefield Village Veterans. Thanks to the support of Sedgefield Development Trust, the commemoration was broadcast live on the Sedgefield News Facebook page. You can view the service in the video below.
