In 2023 we planted a commemorative tree in the grounds of Old Beacon Lane Cemetery, using compost created from the lovely floral tributes left on the central village green following the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II. This black walnut tree is to be known as The Queen’s Tree.

A commemorative plaque has also been installed in front of the tree, reflecting that this tree is planted on behalf of all residents in Sedgefield Parish in commemoration of the late HM Queen Elizabeth II.  The species of tree and its location were chosen with the hope that it can grow into a veteran tree and be enjoyed by many future generations.
